{"id":508,"date":"2016-05-02T10:25:05","date_gmt":"2016-05-02T15:25:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/awlcorp.com\/?p=508"},"modified":"2016-05-02T10:25:05","modified_gmt":"2016-05-02T15:25:05","slug":"recalled-volvo-trucks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/awlcorp.com\/?p=508","title":{"rendered":"Recalled Volvo Trucks"},"content":{"rendered":"<header>\n<h1 id=\"page-title\" class=\"title\">USDOT Announces Unrepaired Recalled Volvo Trucks That May Still be Operating on the Nation\u2019s Roadways Are in an Unsafe Condition<\/h1>\n<\/header>\n<article id=\"content-article\">\n<div class=\"field field-name-field-date-effective field-type-datetime field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\"><span class=\"date-display-single\">March 23, 2016<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p><em><strong>Vehicles Are to Be Immediately Placed Out-of-Service by Federal and State Inspectors<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), in collaboration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), has determined that vehicles subject to Volvo Trucks\u2019 Safety Recall (<a href=\"http:\/\/www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov\/acms\/cs\/jaxrs\/download\/doc\/UCM499790\/RCLRPT-16V097-9654.PDF\">NHTSA Part 573 Safety Recall Report No. 16V-097000<\/a>) that have not already received the interim or permanent recall remedy repair specified by Volvo in the recall and are still operating on the nation\u2019s roadways are in an unsafe condition and should not be operated; such vehicles are to be immediately ordered out-of-service by federal and state roadside safety inspectors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On March 10, 2016, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmcsa.dot.gov\/newsroom\/volvo-safety-recall-alert-steering-shaft#_blank\">Volvo Trucks North America announced the recall<\/a> of certain model year 2016-2017 VNL, VNX, and VNM trucks manufactured from May 11, 2015 through March 8, 2016. \u00a0The trucks may have been manufactured without a roll pin on the steering shaft. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If the roll pin is missing, the lower steering shaft may disconnect from the junction block. \u00a0Also, the bolt connecting the upper steering shaft to the lower steering shaft may not have been properly tightened. \u00a0Either condition can lead to separation of the steering shaft without warning, resulting in a complete loss of steering, which may lead to a crash. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The recall affects nearly 20,000 Class 8 motor vehicles, with nearly 16,000\u00a0affected vehicles in the U.S.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On March 18, FMCSA issued an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fmcsa.dot.gov\/newsroom\/urgent-inspection-bulletin-safety-recall-issued-volvo-trucks\">Urgent Safety Bulletin<\/a> advising operators and carriers of recalled vehicles to immediately contact Volvo Customer Support at 1-877-800-4945 (Option 1) before continuing driving operations. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s announced declaration is not intended to provide a basis for further enforcement action, but seeks only the immediate cessation of the unrepaired, unsafe trucks. \u00a0Operators of vehicles declared out-of-service must comply;
